Enhance Your Gardening Skills
We no longer live in a society where we must grow our own food or starve. So, gardening may not be an area you have mastered. Thankfully, technology has evolved with gardening and is there to help us.
Below, we will show you 3 of our favorite apps for the home gardener. There are many more apps available. As your skill level and needs grow, you may seek out more help. However, these apps are perfect for the aspiring gardener.
This free app is available through Apple’s App Store and Google Play. This app helps you at every stage of your garden. Simply enter the name of the flower, vegetable, or herb you want to plant. The Garden Time Planner tells you when to plant. It will explain if you should begin the plant indoors and if so, at what stage to transplant. It will tell you if the plant needs direct or indirect sun. How often to water, and signs of distress or disease. The Garden Time Planner comes with plenty of pro-gardening tips, complete with videos. If you can only download one app for your garden, you would be hard-pressed to find a better one than this.
iSkape
This app is free from Apple’s App Store and Google Play. There is an advanced iSkape app that cost $10.00. But the free app is impressive and a great tool. iSkape allows you to design your garden visually. You can add plants, flowers, and walkways using the layout of your garden. If you have odd space like a corner section that curves around a shed, or you want to see what your backyard would look like if you used patches of ground around the patio. By being able to visualize your garden, you will avoid mistakes like overgrowth or have plants destroyed by the dog that is leashed in that area.
Garden Compass
If you know virtually nothing about plants and you want to create a garden, this is the best app for you. This app identifies plants by name. It also identifies diseases and symptoms along with their treatment. With Garden Compass, you will know when to plant, where to plant, how to prepare the soil, and how to nurture the plants. Of course, it will tell you when to harvest and protect your garden for the next season. This is the beginner’s tool that you will use for many seasons, even after you are a seasoned gardener.
If you cannot find the answer you need on your app, you can take a picture of the plant in question and email it to customer support at Garden Compass for a quick response. The app has a geo-tracker so the expert will know what part of the country you are in and they will be able to help you based on your climate and conditions.
